Singapore day 2 - Honeymoon Suprise!
It was at the bottom of the Singapore Flyer that we met with our lovely friends, Robin and Rita. They’re a couple we hit it off with a few years ago at an event run by the Porsche Club of Great Britain, and we all ended up going on a fabulous holiday together with a convoy of other motor-heads, to the Loire Valley in France to see the 24hr Le Mans races. Fab!
Anyway, Robin and Rita now happen to live in Singapore, and it was only recently via face-book (would you believe?) that we got in touch again and suggested getting together whilst we were here on our whistle stop tour. They took us for lunch at “Samy’s”, a very authentic Indian restaurant where they dollop a variety of delicious delights on your on banana leaf plate......a great way to save on washing up because when you’ve finished, you just fold your leaf and they chuck it away! We had a great time catching up and meeting their beautiful 4 year old daughter Anne for the first time, she was so cute . We arranged to meet them again tomorrow at Raffles for afternoon tea.
Next was our evening tour of the city. Pick up was at 6pm and this time we shared a coach with some really colourful characters from Australia and New Zealand. Rosie was hilarious; she was a double for Barry Humphries as Dame Edna, and she had us in fits of laughter as she shared many of her experiences of travelling on the various airlines around the world. Clarke Quay was the destination for a Chinese supper, then another market, a tour of the Fountain of Wealth and then.... would you believe.... a stop at the Long Bar at Raffles for another Singapore Sling ..... or two or three! Can I just say that we also met another lovely couple on this trip, Karen and Rob from Newcastle (north of Sydney) with whom we exchanged details, so you never know, we might meet up again sometime!
Well, the surprise of the day came when we arrived back at our hotel suite; as we walked through the parlour we felt rose petals under our feet, and looked down to see yellow petals on the floor shaped like a big heart! We walked into the bedroom and on the end of the bed were two beautiful white doves kissing each other (folded and shaped from the hotel bathroom towels). By the pillows on the bed were a couple of small teddies dressed as a bride and groom! How sweet! Then we noticed an arrow shaped from more yellow rose petals pointing towards the bathroom.....on entering, there was a beautiful hot bubble bath waiting for us with more rose petals, this time red and white. What a lovely surprise....but best of all was the big plate of strawberries that had been dipped in dark chocolate ......absolute pleasure. It was our Raffles butler that was responsible for this honeymoon extravaganza, which we both thought was a lovely touch, making our stay here even more memorable.
